La información histórica
Shah Firuz fue el sultán de la dinastía Tughlaq. Sus familiares gobernaban en Delhi. Habiendo ascendido al trono, inmediatamente dio la orden de construir una nueva fortaleza, que recibió el nombre de Feroz Shah Kotla.
Arquitectura
Quizás la estructura más famosa de Firoz Shah Kotla sea la pulida Columna Ashoka. Fue creado antes de nuestra era. El material era una sola pieza de arenisca blanca. Fue transportada especialmente aquí desde Ambala en una balsa. Se suponía que la columna se convertiría en una decoración del palacio en construcción. Ha sobrevivido hasta el día de hoy. La altura de la estructura es de 14 metros. Su pedestal es un pabellón de tres niveles, cuyas salas sirven como salas de oración. Sólo las ruinas recuerdan a la mezquita. Anteriormente, podía albergar a unos 10 mil creyentes.

Mitos y leyendas
Hay una leyenda según la cual el famoso conquistador Tamerlán quedó tan impresionado por la mezquita local que trajo aquí arquitectos especialmente para que pudieran crear la famosa catedral de Samarcanda a imagen de esta mezquita.
